📅 Weekend of 9–12 October 2026

I haven’t felt myself for a while now.

That’s what one of the men on last year’s expedition wrote when we asked what brought him to the mountain.

If that sentence lands somewhere in you — keep reading.

The Room Most Men Never Get Into

You’re managing it. You’re getting

through the week.

Somewhere between the career, the mortgage, the kids’ schedules and being the one who holds it together —

most men slowly, quietly disappear inside their own lives.

You haven’t cried since you can remember, and if we’re honest, you haven’t laughed properly either. The friends

you had at 25 are people you WhatsApp on birthdays now. The version of yourself who was actually in his body —

you’re not sure when you last met him.

50%

The Men’s Expedition is four days out of it.

This Is Not a Retreat. It’s an Expedition.

Real alpine terrain. Real cold. 18 men.

You’ll do the work we’ve been quietly running for the last seven years — the same nervous-system, breath, and cold-immersion practices we’ve published peer-reviewed research on at Macquarie University. 31% improvement in mood, 36% reduction in anxiety, sustained a week after a single session.

Then we take it up the mountain and go deeper.

What Actually Happens Up There

Body, breath, cold — and the men beside you.

  • Guided breathwork sessions in the alpine morning air — the kind that reset you at a cellular level

  • Cold water immersion in glacial rivers and pools — done properly, done together

  • A summit climb in minimal clothing, breath in your ears, other men beside you

  • Fireside conversations that don’t happen anywhere else — no phones, no performance, no small talk

  • Long hikes through country most Australians never see

  • Real food, warm beds, a lodge that becomes ground for something you’ll remember

What Men Come Home With

Not “renewed purpose.” Real, specific things.

Past attendees have written to us afterward about exactly what changed. Every cohort. Every year.

01

Sleep that comes without a screen

Most men report the first proper week of sleep they’ve had in years — starting the night they get home.

02

Their partner notices in the first 48 hours

Multiple past attendees have had a spouse say, “whatever happened up there, do it again.”

03

The kids feel it

More patience, more presence, less reactivity when the week goes sideways.

04

A daily breath practice that keeps working

Not another wellness app you download and forget — a physiological reset you can run in three minutes, standing in the shower.

05

A group of men who don’t disappear

Every cohort we’ve run has become a WhatsApp thread that outlasts the mountain. Some of them meet up years later.

06

The version of yourself you were before the years compressed you

Hard to put a number on it. The men who’ve felt it don’t need one.

We can’t promise all of that will land for you. We can tell you it’s what the men who’ve been up there keep telling us.

No man is an island. No man climbs alone.

Man hiking alone in the snow

The Provider

The man in his 30s, 40s or 50s who’s built a life and lost himself somewhere inside it — or the one who’s been recommended into breathwork and hasn’t quite pulled the trigger.

Men connecting around the fire

The Father & Husband

The father who wants his kids to remember him as awake, not just there. The husband whose wife has been quietly suggesting he needs a reset.

You need to be able to walk uphill, get in cold water, and stay for four days with 17 other men.

Bring a Brother · Save $300 Each

1 in 5 men come to a Breathless Expedition because someone put them onto it.

A wife. A brother. A mate. Someone who saw them carrying something and pointed at the door.

Think about it for a minute. The mate you’d trust with your life. The friend you haven’t properly checked in on this year. You already know his name.

Your Guide

Johannes Egberts  |  Founder, Breathless Expeditions

Johannes refused to let his own difficult upbringing define him. Ten years ago he found breathwork the way most people do — burning out, carrying too much, and trying anything that might work.

He’ll be with you on the mountain from Friday morning to Monday afternoon. In the cold. In the breath. In the fireside conversations after dark.

Today he’s Australia’s most published breathwork educator. He’s led sessions with the NRL Warriors, David Goggins, and Ludovico Einaudi. He’s trained more than 1,500 facilitators worldwide and published peer-reviewed research with two universities.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Breathless Expeditions?

A breathwork training and adventure company. We run instructor certifications, workshops, and immersive expeditions where breath meets terrain. This is the men-only version — four days at Mt Hotham with 18 men, Johannes Egberts leading.

I’ve done a Men’s Expedition before. Should I come back?

Yes. The man who went up the first time isn’t the man reading this now. The mountain has something new for the man you are today — and this time you can bring a mate. Use code BROTHER for $300 off each.

What if I don’t know breathwork?

Most men come in the same place. Everything you need is taught on the mountain. If you can breathe, you can do this.

What level of fitness do I need?

Reasonable mobility. You’ll walk uphill, cross creeks, and stand in cold water. We move as a group — no one is left behind. You do not need to be an athlete.

What should I pack?

1. 2–3 pairs wool/merino socks

2. Beanie + cap or sun visor

3. Warm layered clothing

4. Hiking boots (waterproof or leather ideal)

5. Gloves

6. Easy slip-on shoes for the lodge

7. Swimwear (×2 minimum)

8. Pen and paper / journal

9. Reusable water bottle / keep cup

10. Sun protection, sunglasses, or goggles

11. Quick-dry outdoor towel (bathroom towels supplied)

Can I attend if I’m under 18?

We generally recommend this for men aged 18+. If you’re considering it for someone younger, contact us — we assess case by case.

Any medical conditions we should know about?

Breathwork carries some contraindications — pregnancy, uncontrolled high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, glaucoma, epilepsy, bipolar disorder or schizophrenia diagnosis, uncontrolled thyroid or diabetes, aneurysms, asthma (bring your inhaler), or recent psychiatric hospitalisation. Read our full waiver carefully before booking. A positive answer doesn’t automatically exclude you — but may require medical clearance first.

Refunds and cancellations?

Full payment is due 6 weeks before the event start (unless on a payment plan). Deposits refundable during a 14-day cooling-off period; then non-refundable. Full refund minus deposit if you cancel 60+ days out. 50% refund minus deposit 30–59 days out. Within 29 days, 15% refund minus deposit only if the spot fills — otherwise non-refundable. Full refund policy here.

The resistance and excuses I kept making, even though I knew I needed it.

That’s what the men on the mountain last year almost all said when we asked what nearly stopped them coming.

Book, or don’t. Bring a mate, or come alone. Either way, we’ll be up there in October.
